Waldorf-Inspired Virtual Classes

MathClass10

Lotus & Ivy provides live, interactive Waldorf math classes online for grade K-10.

Class 10 Math

Our Class 10 Math Lessons are live, and students are invited to interact with the teacher and ask questions as part of class time.

High School Geometry

We offer two options for our 10th grade students. The first option is High School Geometry and the second option is Algebra I.  Algebra I generally comes before Geometry. Our high school Geometry course is the next step in the high school math trajectory following Algebra I.

This class will use the Holt McDougal Larson Geometry, Common Core Edition textbook, but will be taught through the lens of a Waldorf teacher who will bring meaningful enhancements to the lessons with supplemental material from Making Math Meaningful, Grades 9 & 10. This class will meet three days a week.

Geometry helps students understand spatial relationships which are necessary for higher-order thinking skills. Geometry describes directions, place, relations in space, shapes and ratios that connect real-world experiences to maps and drawings.

In our Geometry class, students will develop reasoning skills by studying proofs. They will learn to apply properties of lines, triangles, circles, and quadrilaterals. They will also develop problem solving skills by using length, area, perimeter, circumference, surface area, and volume to solve real-life problems.

High School Geometry Topics

  • Thorough review of basic geometry and algebra topics

  • Deductive reasoning

  • Parallel and perpendicular lines; proofs

  • Congruent triangles

  • Relationships within triangles: bisectors, medians, altitudes

  • Ratios, proportions, and the geometric mean

  • Right triangles: applying the Pythagorean Theorem

  • Quadrilaterals: properties, and finding angle measures

  • Properties of transformations: symmetry, reflections, rotations, using vectors

  • Properties of circles: arc measures, chords, angle relationships in circles, equations of circles

  • Length and area

  • Surface area and volume of solids

  • Cartesian coordinate plane; equations for lines and parabolas

  • Puzzles & riddles

High School Transcripts & Credit

Students do not need to be enrolled in Lotus & Ivy Main Lesson Classes to enroll in a Math class; however, this may affect the number of math hours for the year if the student desires to reach the 120 hours needed for a credit. Lotus & Ivy is not a private school or umbrella covering. Our students are homeschool students who are legally registered with their state as homeschoolers. The parent or guardian is legally and fully responsible for the student’s education. That said, Lotus & Ivy provides unofficial transcripts for our high school students. These unofficial transcripts include course grades and course descriptions, and may be used by parents to create official high school transcripts for their homeschool student.

Lotus & Ivy coursework is designed to provide the student with college preparatory grade-level curriculum and hours needed for credit. Students who enroll in our main lesson, math, and humanities courses, and who perform the work expected of them, will have at least the 120 hours needed for 1 credit each in Math, History, Science, and English for a total 4 homeschool credits for the Tenth Grade year. Our science courses include weekly labs.

Students who desire to attend college should begin communication with college admissions as soon as the Ninth Grade year. It is good to have a list of three or four potential colleges and to have begun communication with the college to find out what is required of a homeschool student who wishes to be accepted to the college. Most colleges will provide requirements to homeschoolers and our high school office will help provide what is needed as far as grades, course descriptions, and hours needed.

Please Note: The Math Main Lesson Block for Class 10 is trigonometry.  It is taught as part of the Lotus & Ivy Class 10 Main Lesson ClasS, NOT the Year-long math class. Together, our Class 10 Main lesson class and year-Long math class are part of the full 10th grade Math curriculum, which provides a solid and rigorous math foundation.
