English II with Ms. Nicholson
Our English II Track Class meets once a week year-round.
In English 2, we begin the year with a detailed study of Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ getting to know the characters, language, themes and comic elements. This will prepare the students for the Class 10 play, so they will be able to launch into performance preparations immediately.
The students will learn about the history of the English language, looking at the diverse influences from other languages; writers whose works have shaped the language we speak today; and also at how English is changing in our modern world.
We will read and discuss ‘A Doll’s House’ by Henrik Ibsen, a play which, although written well over a hundred years ago, still raises important questions about the position of women and the freedom of the individual to shape her or his destiny.
